On Thursday the 14th of September we went to knock , County Mayo . We departed the school at 8:00 the morning after junior cert results , we went to Knock to take part in the promotion of the Young Saint Vincent De Paul . The young Saint Vincent De Paul provides opportunities for young people to engage in social action in their communities .
We were inmediately split up into groups and sent to different tables with students from other schools where we discussed the different topics that each speaker spoke about .
Father Peter McVerry spoke about his personal experiences of dealing with homeless people and how the best thing you can do is say hello instead of ignoring them . Saint Vincent De Paul promotes the message that everybody is equal .
A speaker that really stood out for me was Joanne O'Riordan . Joanne has a disability called tetra-Amelia which means she was born with no limbs , she is one of seven living people with the disability . However she does not see it as a bad thing , she shared her life experiences and talked to us about how her disability doesn't stop her from achieving her goals and ambitions .
Overall I thought the trip to knock was slightly boring and the majority of the speakers weren't very interactive with their audience . I thought that if we got to do more practical things instead of sitting down all day it would have made the day more enjoyable .
