Gaa Future Leaders
On the 16th of October I resigestered for the Gaa Future Leaders Programme as part of our P.E class .
On Monday the 22nd of January , Bosco Damien Coleman and Kevin Molloy came to our school to teach us how to properly coach a team . They told us the characteristics necessary to train and the basic skills needed .
I learned that when training a younger team you need to play fun games , followed by modified drills and then finish with a game . i also learned patience is a must have and to be kind and fair to each player . I leaned how to adjust drills and games based on the players level of skill .
we were all divided into groups and given a skill to teach the rest of the year . we were given approximately 20 mins to come up with an easy drill , a modified drill and a game . we had to break down the skill into easy step by step instructions and at the end of the day we had to get the others to participate in it . my group taught the rest of the year the ' solo run ' .
After doing the coaching we now have to opportunity to set up a blitz between the 1st and 2nd year hurling and camogie teams every Thursday . A chairperson was selected to organise the blitz , a secretary to type up the news and results , referees to reff the matches and managers to divide the two years into teams . I was selected manager for one of the camogie teams .
