My Transition Year Reflection
Throughout the year I tried to participate in most of the opportunities given to us. I learned lots of new skills and I feel I achieved most of my objectives for the year. I think this year has really benefited me as I gained more confidence and have a better idea of what I want to do after school.
My first aim for the year was to become closer with my year , especially my classmates. I feel I have achieved this though participating in group activities , going on trips especially going to Delphi and Barcelona really helped me to get the opportunity to get to know others more .
My second aim was to have a clearer picture of what I would like to do after school . I achieved this through various opportunities of work experience . I went to Gordon Elliot’s racing stables and within the first day I knew this career was not for me , I also went to the national school in Portumna which I really enjoyed and I would love to look into primary school teaching more . I also went to Birr Equestrian Centre, Cavan International Horse Sales and Dáil Éireann .
My third aim was to become more confident . I achieved this aim by doing public speaking with Alan Devine and by participating in GAA with a twist . GAA with a twist really encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and perform in front of the school and community , which is something I would have never dreamed of doing before!
Overall , I thoroughly enjoyed transition year and I am glad that I did it . I have achieved various things and participated in things I never would have outside the transition year programme . I have also developed my CV and I found that I really matured throughout the year and that I am now ready to start the leaving cert cycle .
