GAA With A Twist
GAA With A Twist was held for one night , on the 14th of December. We spent weeks and weeks rehearsing for it, spending full days in the gym for rehearsals. Our show was different because it was not a musical like what was done the previous years , it was a variety show. The theme was GAA and immigration.
Before the show we all expected it to fall apart but on the night no one believed it had all finally come together. There was a lot of negative thoughts on it but in the end I think everybody was quite happy with how it turned out . As a year, it took us a while to get into the spirit of the show. We didn't take the rehearsals seriously and I think that's why we were very negative and got a shock when we were actually going to have to preform this onstage in front of the whole school and community.
A lot of resources were poured into our show. Angela choreographed the dances, Ms. Coyle composed the music and made sure it all sounded performable , Mr. Coughlan focused on our acting and deliverance while Ms. Lohan made sure that all our costumes were acceptable.
Due to the show being new , the script was always changing. Pieces were being added or taken away right up until the day before the actual performance.
I was Frenchie from Grease and although I only had to say a couple of lines I found that it really helped my confidence as I’m quite a shy person . I also had to sing which I was extremely nervous about because initially I would have never thought I could sing!
My favourite part of the show was the dancing. I would have never had a real interest in dancing and it really pushed me outside my comfort zone. We had dancing with Angela every Tuesday and I always looked forward to it.
