Alan Devine
Public Speaking
On the 4th of October , Alan Devine or as most people may know him , Louis from Fair City came to our school to talk to us about public speaking . After a false introduction Alan began to explain the 5 key components of public speaking and how to deliver a good speech .
1 . A powerful walk
2 . A strong stance
3. Eye contact
4 . Gestures and facial expressions
5 . 'Granny Devine's Smile'
Throughout the day we participated in different games and activites which helped us to develop a skill associated with public speaking . Some of the activities we participated in were telling jokes , following the ‘gesture machine’ and singing ‘old king cole’ . I really enjoyed the day and found that what Alan was saying was very beneficial and helpful to me. It helped me to become more confident speaking infront of my class and he taught me how to deliver a good speech!
He returned on Friday the 13th to listen to everyone’s one minute speech that they had prepared . I spoke about mental health because it is something that means a lot to me and is a topic that is very close to my heart . Everybody’s speech allowed me to learn more about them as they spoke about their interests , hobbies and things that they’re passionate about .
